BOSS hot subdwarfs — the published sdB+dM

These are not statistics, they are specific claims to check. Every one is called a plain sdB by the classifier, so the published companion is not visible in the spectrum, and an infrared excess is the way to settle it. Their spectrum S/N is 23 to 32, below the baseline cut, so each is judged on its own evidence rather than counted.

The SED cannot settle these, and the honest answer is not “no companion”. The cool-star grid stops at 3500 K. The M dwarf in a reflection-effect sdB+dM sits near 3000 K — below that floor — and at several hundred parsecs it contributes a few per cent at W1. Where the table says a main-sequence companion warmer than 3500 K is excluded, 3500 K is the floor, not a measurement: the test bottomed out without reaching the temperatures these companions live at. A published sdB+dM is therefore left unsettled, not contradicted.
